This survey is to determine the cause, extent and nature of damages incurred on cargoes, machineries, etc. This is dependent upon the experience and competence of the person undertaking the job, that is, the surveyor needs to have an understanding of the special characteristics of the goods with which he is called upon to deal with and to be familiar with any treatment that might be necessary in minimizing the loss.
